Liene Circene made her Toronto
recital debut at the Glenn Gould Studio in 2000 and has since
established an impressive career in Europe with performances in Germany,
England, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Russia and the Baltic
States.
Born in Latvia in 1976, she studied at the Latvian Academy of Music with
additional studies in Russia, Germany, Denmark and France.
She was the top prize winner at numerous international piano
competitions in the early 1990s, including the Vladimir Krainev
Competition for Young Pianists (Ukraine, 1992), the Maryse Cheilan
International Piano Competition (France, 1993), the Baltic TV
Competition Alternativa (Latvia, 1993) and won 2nd prize at the 7th
Eurovision Competition in Poland in 1994.
Ms. Circene has appeared as guest soloist with the Warsaw Philharmonic,
the Latvian National Symphony, the Icelandic Symphony as well as the BBC
and other orchestras. Recent recitals include concerts at the Sallurinn
Concert Hall (Iceland), the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and a
recital at the Senate of Paris. She is a regular guest soloist with
violinist Gidon Kremer’s Kremerata Baltica. This September, she opened
the recital season at the Large Guild Hall in Riga, Latvia and played
Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, Op. 56 with violinist Vineta Sareika and
cellist Marta Sudraba and the Latvian National Symphony.
